How to Remove Skunk Smell from Car?

Did you run over a skunk and you’re now suffering from the obnoxious, pungent odor that stuck on your vehicle? Skunk smell resembles rotten eggs and cannot be easily eliminated even after a couple of sprays with a deodorizer. And, the worst part about it is that it lingers for a long time and permeates everything.
There is no doubt that this odor is indeed a difficult smell to remove. But with the right techniques and the correct types of deodorizers, you can remove skunk smell from your car.
Tips to Remove Skunk Smell from Cars
1. Using Car Shampoo
Start by washing the outside of the car with car shampoo and a garden hose. Most of the time, the skunk must have sprayed on the outside of the car. Pay attention to the tires too. Use tire cleaner for better results.
2. Cleaning the Inside of the Car
Leave the car doors open for as long as possible to let the fresh air in. This will help disperse some of the harsh skunk smell. Remove all the mats and other removable items from the interior. You can clean them individually after you have attended to the interior.
3. Making a Cleaning Mixture
Combine the following in a plastic bucket: two quarters of hydrogen peroxide, one cup of baking soda and one cup of automotive shampoo. Mix thoroughly. Apply it inside the car’s upholstery and wipe off completely with a sponge.
4. Making Use of a Dashboard Cleaner
Apply dashboard cleaner onto the dashboard. Additionally, you can use soap and water. Once you applied the cleaner or the soap, you can use sponge to wipe it away completely. Above all, be careful when wiping down the steering wheel.
5. Using Skunk Odor Remover
You can make use of skunk odor remover on the car upholstery. Moreover, this remover needs to be sprayed or sponged on as per package instructions. You should use skunk odor products in full-strength and not to be diluted with water. Spray or sponge it on the carpet. In addition, use the skunk odor remover on the consoles and arm rests. Wipe off immediately. Most importantly, leave the doors and windows open during and after the process until all the odor is gone.
6. Using Air Deodorizer
Spray a good brand of air deodorizer inside the car interiors. When you are using the car at night, make sure that you keep the windows open. Most importantly, keep two bowls of activated charcoal inside your car and leave it overnight inside the car.
Using the above techniques, you can remove the skunk odor from the inside of the car. However, if the above methods do not work, you can use the services of professional detailers.
