We all love chocolate but eating it can get very messy quickly, especially during hot summer days. If chocolate stains your car upholstery, don’t panic, because these stains can be easily removed by following DetailXPerts’ guide on “how to remove chocolate stains from car seats”. But you gotta act fast because the older the stains are, the harder they are to get rid of!
7-Step Guide: How to Remove Chocolate Stains from Car Seats
Step 1: Gather the Supplies
Prepare yourself for the procedure by gathering all these supplies.
- Ice
- Water
- Upholstery cleaner or dish soap
- Plastic scraper
- Soft-bristled auto detailing brush
- Microfiber towels
- Hair dryer
- Steam cleaner (optional)
Step 2: Apply Ice
Apply ice over the chocolate stain to harden it. If you try to get rid of the stain while it’s still sticky and gooey, it will sink deeper into the upholstery material and stain it further.
Step 3: Scrape off
When the chocolate hardens, it can be easily scraped off of the car seat using a plastic scraper or the blunt edge of a knife. Use gentle movements to avoid damaging the upholstery.
*Optional step: If you own a steam cleaner, it can be used on the chocolate stain to effectively remove it. Follow step 2 and 3 first, because the high temperature of steam will quickly dissolve chocolate and create a mess. Steam works wonders on all kinds of stains and will rejuvenate the appearance of your car upholstery.
Step 4: Use the Upholstery Cleaner
Spray a few squirts of the upholstery cleaner of your choice (make sure it is safe for all upholstery types) or the dish soap and water solution on to the stain. Let the product sit for at least 5 minutes – give it sufficient time to work on the stain.
Step 5: Scrub with Brush
Take the soft-bristled auto detailing brush and gently scrub the stain until it disappears. Again, you should work gently because hard movements will weaken the upholstery material.
Step 6: Wipe the Stain with Water
If you used an upholstery cleaner, you don’t have to use water to wipe the stain. Use a microfiber towel to gently dab it. If you used a dish soap solution, spray a few squirts of water on to the stain and dab the stain with a microfiber towel.
*Extra step: If the stain is still visible after treating it, follow steps 4 through 6 again.
Step 7: Use the Hair Dryer
If you sprayed water (or used the steam cleaner), use a hair dryer to quickly dry the now clean area. The drying process has to be accelerated to avoid water stains.
After-care
That’s it! In 7 easy steps, you can remove chocolate stains from car seats. You can add car seat covers to your clean upholstery to prevent all types of staining, including chocolate, coffee, oil, grease, blood, mud, etc. The best practice is, of course, not eating inside the car.
